Shouldn't the booster be bolted directly to the firewall?  Like on my 71.

I agree, post some more pictures; specifically of your brake MC so we can see how it mounted. As noted on here, the rod should be pretty straight from the pedal to the back of the MC (does have a slight angle perhaps). If the MC is in the right position and the rod is going from the pedal up or down at an distinct angle, you perhaps have the wrong brake pedal in the car (I think B body brake pedals are longer). As for the bolt, someone post the correct bolt early on, you need to have this because it fills the brake pedal rod end completely and gives a bearing surface, the threaded part goes through the pedal; think of it this way, the threaded part holds the rod to the pedal, but all of the rotation occurs on the fat part of the bolt (it should not be turning in the pedal), the O ring is there to keep lubricant in the pedal rod end where it is needed.

People do weird things with cars and it would not be surprising to see that they used the wrong MC or something. I have seen a lot of Chevy crap end up in a Mopar Jerry rigged in to "almost" work (like a 454 in a very nice 70 GTX)

Chryo Pyscho post gave me an idea of posting this pics, perhaps it will help with understanding what you have or should have.

The spring goes to the dog bone on the original booster.... You have an aftermarket booster, some work, most don't...

Rockauto shows a reman OE booster including core for less than $100...  I'd buy it, then track down the correct bell crank, dog bone & pivot bolt...

Dog bone meaning the looped rod at both ends on the stock linkage

If I swap out the booster then the brake lines to the MC will be too far forward,  or will they be able to be re-bent?

I didn't see the lines in your pictures.  The lines can probably be re-routed if you are careful not to kink them.   Worst case, you can buy the pre-bent MC to dist block lines or bend your own.

Holy cow that is a Hemi-like type setup where the booster is farther away from the firewall.

I guess you could try to make this work by trying to source the correct shouldered bolt mentioned before but I still think you will have issues with the brake pedal to booster angle.

I'd go with the setup shown by Cryco and others.
