Need any feedback on 440 Source
« on: January 10, 2016 - 01:16:56 AM »
Hello, I getting ready to order over 5K worth of engine parts from 440 Source. Including a set of Stealth heads and a stroker kit for a 383. My concern is, I have never ordered anything from this Co. And I have seen some neg. post ( on other websites) about the quality of the aluminum heads.
Anyone know of any recent problems dealing with 440 Source. or have any feedback on the quality of their products.

Thanks.

I have a pair of their stealth heads and am very happy with their quality. I changed out the springs and retainers because my cam is over .500 lift.
I also have their HV water pump and housing and my car no longer heats up while idling in traffic so I am very happy with them as well.
I will be ordering a crank and rods from them sometime soon (dollar exchange is holding me back at the moment) and have no reason to think I will be disappointed in the quality of those parts.

I bought a 512 stroker kit and their Stealth heads last year for my 440 block. Motor is together but hasnt been run yet, nor put in the car. Engine builders said they were impressed with the quality of the kit and heads.

As I understand it, 440 Source heads had some issues on a small run when they were first released. Others claim that they don't flow well. I dont know hat the deal was, but as long as you go into your purchase not expecting these to outflow Indy heads or something, then I am sure they will be fine. Should be on par with Edelbrock RPM heads I would imagine. At any rate, 440 Source customer service has been great for me and I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

I heard about stealth cylinder heads cracking. The 440 Source acknowledged that and all faulty heads were replaced under warranty. Only reputable companies do that.

I heard about stealth cylinder heads cracking. The 440 Source acknowledged that and all faulty heads were replaced under license. Only reputable companies do that.

Most of the cracked heads early on were traced back to the alignment dowels being longer than the receiver hole in the head... It could easily be argued that the issue was installation error because the installer absolutely should have caught that... But Source replaced a few sets of heads cause thats how they do business... Through the years I've seen allot of negative posts about 440 source but 99% of those posts are by guys who don't own anything 440 source made and likely never will...

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'm going to got with the stealth heads and have them install their "upgrade kit" with the springs, locks and retainers. I think out the door the heads are $1,300

Thanks Chryco Psycho, I was thinking of going with just the stroker kit from 440 Source and going to the Edelbrock heads, but after everyone's feedback. I will order everything from 440 Source.

Again, thanks everyone.

Just finished setting up a set of 440 source roller rockers and related hardware. They look very good. i have done a lot of research on this company and haven't found any recent issues with their products. I think any issues would have showed up by now,

I bought their cylinder heads and head bolt kit. Almost a thousand dollars worth. No problems fast shipping.

Which stroker kit are you going with...just curious. I got the stealth heads and have been very happy. If nothing else it got rid of that stupid problem of the exhaust bolts spewing coolant every time I took a bolt out.

Just got my 440 six pack rebuilt using mostly 440 Source parts and I'm very happy with the results.

The forged h-beam rods in particular were things of beauty.

I would definitely do business with them again.
