Progress on the 318 is comin slowly but surely...
« on: June 03, 2005 - 05:14:13 PM »
Well up to about a month ago i had not done a THING to my motor since november when i bought the car.....except for plug change, wires, etc etc...

Gettin ready to do a Heads (360 J-Heads 2.02valves, milled to 56cc chambers, adj roller rockers), Intake (performer rpm, milled-matched to the heads), and Cam change (http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Search/CamDetails.asp?PartNumber=20-311-4). I've gathered most of the parts and im VERY close to getting this motor modded one weekend.

So in a month i've gotten my exhaust/headers put in, my Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition w/MSD Blaster coil and Heli-Core wires and thats it so far. I need to get the right valve springs in the heads, new hoses, and the 4bbl kickdown linkage.

Can't wait to get it together, just put the mopar valve covers on (have the matching air cleaner when i put the 4bbl on).

So to avoid getting the  :worthless: smilie i included a few  :dogpile:

Exhaust - 2.5" Super 40series Flowmasters, dumped

Motor - Before

Motor - Yesterday

I try and keep it somewhat clean under there for being a daily driver. Put about 15k miles on it since November..

Pic i took with my heads, intake, carb, v/cs  & air cleaner on a table, should make it look pretty clean IMO

What do ya think? I plan on some 3.73s or 3.91s with a suregrip after the motor work is done, after that i gotta budget a tranny rebuild/shift kit/ TQ converter...which i have a 3000stall i can use...

Thanks guys

I think i do, i dont do much highway driving..if i got a chunk w/3.55s i wouldnt change it but im leaning twords 3.73s if i get the right case for it. I didnt buy the car for gas mileage so I honestly wouldnt mind the lower MPG for the extra getup..If anything, if im playing to go to california or somethin i can swap 3rd members for the 2.76s....

I'm not doin too bad figuring i got a lot of the stuff for free otherwise i wouldnt even be able to afford it, lots of generous locals that have helped me out...

So far:
Heddman Headers - Free, had to pick em up
Mufflers + Install - $147 for the mufflers shipped, $200 hang/plumbing..not bad
Heads - Free - Paid $100 or so to get em MagnaFluxed and cleaned
Intake - Free - Paid to media blast it
Rebuilt Carter Comp Series 4bbl - Free, my dad had it in the garage
Mopar Performance Distributor and ECU - Free - Had to get wiring from junkyard
Chrysler Mini-Starter - Free

Other than that everything ive bought and have to buy will total around $800-900..which isnt bad at all for a h/c/i swap and a couple pieces of eye candy

 Nice and clean Goody

I'm about to get an eddy Performer 1406 for my 73 which already has a Performer intake and X-heads. Could you snap a close up of the linkage side, as i expect i'll need the Chrysler linkage adapter. Does yours have it (the linkage adapter)?

Well i havent even bought the kickdown for the 4bbl setup yet. Thats on my list, ill be using a carter carb so ill do a test fit kinda, to see if i need some sort of adapter. When i did the kickdown on my dart w/a holley they said to get the adapter....didnt use it...its sitting in my garage  :dontknow:

You're best bet would be a Lokar kickdown setup...they're only about $50 bucks and hook up and adjust REAL easily!!

I'm thinking about it...have you used it? I'm not sure how it would mount on the intake, i know there are brackets that are availible that accept the Lokar Throttle/Kickdown but those are like $50 too....idk if i wanna spend $150 on a bracket, lokar kickdown, and lokar throttle cable....rather put it twords spring relocation and some body color steelies  :dogpile:
