Holley float bowl finish problems
« on: January 11, 2016 - 10:05:05 PM »
I had to tear my 2 year old Holley 750 DP down because the accelerator pump arms were "Jammed."  I would go WOT with it under the hood and the pumps wouldn't give me two squirts of piss.   :banghead:

I took it off, cleaned everything and replaced the diaphragms, check valves and springs.  While I was in there I noticed a lot of debris inside the float bowls.  I have been having a horrible off idle lean stumble (even before these starting acting up) and decided to go overkill and put a 50cc pump on the primary side to help ease the transition to the secondaries opening.  I'll test drive it on my lunch break tomorrow since I'm on the beach all week.

One thing especially alarmed me, look at the finish inside the holley float bowls... the finish inside is flaking off and almost looks like corrosion.  I feel like these things should be able to handle ethanol pump gas fuels?

So what would you suggest, I order a 45 gal barrel of non-ethanol fuel from VP racing for the cost of my left nut sack?  :roflsmiley:

I would get non-ethanol fuel at the pump, but it doesn't exist anywhere here higher that 87 octane.

There's one refinery down here that still makes it but it's mainly for local boaters (Louisiana) and it's only 87 octane fuel. My 440 needs the higher octane fuel to avoid pinging
