E code hi-perf 440 block w/crank
« on: January 13, 2016 - 09:17:38 AM »
I got a from what I recall 70 "f" or " e" code hi perf 440 block that has been sitting wrapped up and pickled for some time, was this a 6-pack engine with the hi/perf stamp?

E stamped is 69 so the possiibility of it being a 6 pack is very unlikely as it would have to be a A12 car
if it is stamped F it is a 70 block & all 440 Magnums & 6 packs were stamped HP so it could be a 4bbl or 6 pack block  the block was no different anyway but the six packs did use the external balanced assy with heavier rods internally

69 A12 440 used standard LY rods and was internally balanced
70 440 Magnum and 440 Sixpack all used heavy rods & external balance
The only way to prove a 440 is from a Sixpack car is having the VIN match a Sixpack car...

Learned something again. I just thought just the cast crank engines were external balance. Were the flywheels on magnum and six-pack manual trans cars drilled to balance the engine? :clueless:

Yes but do you have a car to match it to?   If it's a 69 "E" 440 it may/usually has the full VIN & if the 5th digit is "M" it's a Sixpack block... If the car still exsists the person who owns it will want to talk to you...    If it's a 70 "F" 440 it will only have a partial VIN so you need a car that it matches to prove if it is or is not a Sixpack block....

All A12 motors were built at the Lynch road plant and the serial number starts with A9.....

If it does, then you would have to email the A12 web site to check your serial number run. I thought I had had an A12 block since the serial number run fell in between some cars listed on their site but they emailed back saying my motor was out of sequence by 300 or so. Too bad since I have a matching 6 pack intake.

I should search my 440 too, I was said it is a six pack from a 69 roadrunner but, I should check it thoroughly.
