15x 8 rallye wheels up front on 70 challenger
« on: January 14, 2016 - 07:54:56 PM »
I'd like to order a set of 15 x 8 rallye wheels for all four corners. The rear tires will either be a 265/60 or 275/60. I have a stock 8-3/4 rear end with HD leaf springs. The front suspension will basically be stock except for firm feel upper control arms, uscartool fender braces. I will convert the front drums to a disc brake setup that works with the 15" rim. My question is : could I run an 8" rallye rim with a 255/60 tire with proper back spacing without worrying about either steering rub or fender clearance. I'll go with a 15 x 7 up front if I have to, but would rather have all 8" rallyes on a bit taller sidewall tire. Or will I need to go with a narrower tire like a 245 or even 235?

Thanks
Chris

I put a 19x9 on the front of my Challenger and cracked a Fiberglass front fender the first time I parked it. I just installed 18x8s on the front of the Cuda and have not driven it but it cycles and jounces just fine.

What size front tires are you running?

I use 15x7 with 3.75" backspace up front with 225/60 tires. Rears are 15x8 4.5 bs and 245/60 tires. Those sizes are almost identical diameter to the original T/A rake with E60s and G60s. Of course my fronts are smaller than a lot of guys use. I went this combo for the original rake of the T/A, but you can get larger tires on the car. My suspension is all stock '70 R/T. Also have the 11.75" Córdoba rotors up front.

On the 19x9s  - 265/ZR35-19 Michelin

On the 18x8s - 245/ZR40-18 BFG Comp -2

NC -- I have 15x8 minilte rims f/r... I used to have 245-60 up front, but they are too small (IMO)... and now I have new 255-60 fronts and keep the 275-60 rears (also replaced new)... no problems on a Challenger body (you may want to tuck your lips in for added safety).  I've run these on factory 15x7 ralley rims in the past.. again, no problems.  The 255-60 fronts give a bit more cushion with harsh road/bumps (my suspension is stiffly setup for AX/HSAX/HPDE (lowered ride height, as well), although I also have other rims/tires for those events... the 15x8 rims/tires are for cruising... very nice comfortable ride!).
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

See  MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2006 ISSUE for featured article and details on my autocross T/A.

Great, thanks for the input.
