With the CDN dollar in the tank what do you think?
« on: January 14, 2016 - 10:38:58 PM »
OK, I know we are already discussing the lousy dollar in another thread. This has just hit me this weekend that after 18yrs maybe it's time to sell the convertible. Seriously, hasn't left the garage in 3 yrs as I've been busy building cars for other people and to be honest I'm just too worried something might happen to it while taking it for a cruise.  I do have an opportunity to replace it with a Hellcat so don't worry, I'm not going anywhere and wont sell for any other reason. What do you think is a fair USD amount? where is the best place to sell sooner rather than later seeing as I already missed the boat for the Phoenix auctions this year.
It is a numbers matching 383 console auto, rimblow wheel, new correct dash pad, front and rear bumperettes, 15" rallyes, luggage rack and dual chrome mirrors, powers steering and power drum brakes. Has had the color changed long ago to plum from go-mango. Clock has around 45K on it and underneath is maintained original. Turns out that the blakes in Scottsdale owned it for a period of time in the late 70's and is original sheet metal except an NOS fender and hood that were replaced early in the cars life.

Man I love that car! Purple and white color combo is just awesome, I'm thinking your gonna regret cutting this one loose. Anyhow, just looking at your pics and description: I would think that car is worth around $100k give or take a few thou. That is in US funds.

Is that the train in Kingston. ON? Sir John A's Train?

I know of MANY people in Ottawa who have put their cars in the upcoming MECUM auction for exactly the same reason. I have no idea of value of your car but this is a great time as Canadians to sell vehicles to the USA but if your looking to buy to replace that exchange will kill you.

For many people who are upside down on their cars this is a chance to at least break even. Lot's of talk of the Canadian Dollar going south of 0.59.

Nice car. Just drive it. If someone bumps into it, that's what insurance is for just like a new car. If you do sell it you probably will never replace it down the road but if you do it will probably cost an extra 50% by the time you figure transportation, border hassles and fixing problems on the replacement so you have to be comfortable with that.

Thanks for the replies so far!

I wont have regrets selling only because I have the Hellcat opportunity. I work on peoples cars all day long and into the night!! lol. Even the exhaust fumes of old cars get to me so that is also a big part of this. :)

I think every Canadian with something of value they want to sell are thinking the same thing. I have a new toy hauler I bought in 2013 - paid 90 grand. Try to buy the same one now and it's 130 plus. Anyone want to buy a awesome toy hauler let me know - I will deliver!

Wait a minute! Seeing as you work overseas aren't you paid in USD??

I also have a 2015 41' Bunk 5th wheel looking to sell south or here, won't matter now as used prices in Canada follow the price increases of new thankfully.

I have an hourly rate I invoice for domestic work and an international rate which are all in Canadian dollars. I just don't use the fifth wheel anymore.
