1970 BARRACUDA FRONT SUSPENSION KIT INSTALLATION **HELP**
« on: January 16, 2016 - 12:18:07 PM »
Happy New Year everyone! I purchased the following parts to rebuild my front suspension:

Front Lower Ball Joint and Steering Arm - Passenger Qty 1
Front Lower Ball Joint and Steering Arm - Driver Qty 1
Front Upper Ball Joint Qty 2
Outer Tie Rod Ends Qty 2
Inner Tie Rod Ends Qty 2
Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeves Qty 2

I am a newbie when it comes to suspension. Can anyone advise me as to where to start with the R&R? FYI, I have the front end on jack stands, tires off and I do have the ball joint fork tools. My car is the BH with the 318 so I do not have the front sway bar (yet). Your assistance is much appreciated and I would like to thank ya'll in advance.

Darcy

I never use the Fork tool  , just hit it hard with a large hammer & they pop apart , back the nut off first of course but do not remove it ,  the front brake drums or rotors need to be removed to get to the bolts for the lower ball joints  you can just use a jack under the lower control arm to hold the spring pressure or you cna undo the adjuster bolts to remove the spring pressure . You need a special socket to undo the upper ball joints  I find it easier to loosen the nut & separate the bal joint while everything is together & undo the upper ball jit from the arm as the rest of the suspension will hold everything steady while you unthread the upper joints other wise you need to do this in a vice .

if you look on the ball joints and tie rod ends (where the tapered stud slides through), there are usually some flat spots (looks like square or rectangular blocks on one or both sides). As stated, looked the nuts but do not remove them completely; get a large ball peen hammer and with very sharp blows, strike the flat spots. Sometimes it takes a few really good whacks. A pickle fork can work but will destroy the boot usually and Mopars were not designed to work with them. I am sure there are youtube videos on this.
