early 80's engine build
« on: January 18, 2016 - 10:06:02 PM »
I know everyone thinks I have lost my mind, but I plan on building a 440 with vintage part numbers. Here is the back story. My Uncle bought a 1970 cuda in 1979. He drove, raced, it intil about 1983 when he wrekced it. Then he bought another 1970 and drove, raced it and wrecked it. In 1985 he passed away when he was 27. I used to ride around in the cuda's when I was a kid. He always told me he would give me the cuda when I turned 16. I was only 12 when he died, but since the cuda was wrecked, it was sold for parts.

Fast forward to 2015 I came accross the opportunity to buy a 1970 barracuda. I plan on doing a replica of my uncles cuda. I want to build the 440 as close to the engine he had. Recently, I came accross receipts he had from 1982 from the machine shop that built his 440. I have tried to research these part numbers, but didnt come up with much. Not sure if they are unique to the shop he bought them through or not. I figured I would throw them out there just in case.

part number                   description

45048                            crank
rpd11                             cam

hc168                            chain
hs380                            gear
hs339                            gear
105-264                         rings
m63hu                           oil pump
1453m                           cam bearings

Thanks! I dont even have a picture of it. It's all from my memory as a kid. Dark green with a black top. "i love my hooker headers" decals on the quarter glass.  "C U D A" prism letters on the tail panel on the drivers side. Cragars front and rear. 50's in the back, 60's in the front. No raised white letter tires. sun tach 2 on the column. 3 gauge housing on the lower dash.  Roach clips on the sunvisor LOL. radio set to KSHE-95. The only thing I have from the actual car is a broken cuda 440 emblem which will go on the car when it is finsihed.

Those part numbers would be from a machine shop/parts store. ie the ring set may be a hastings number, oil pump from Melling, lifters, cam, timing set may be Sealed Power or similar. Non of them would have been high performance speed shop type parts. Not sure on the crank but chances are it was a reground, that was sold by that particular shop. I get what you are trying to do, but it may be difficult to find these exact part numbers as they are 30 years old and have been superseded several times since then. Good Luck with the search.

I know what you mean. I knew it was a long shot when i couldnt find the numbers on the web. I figure the cam would be the most important part. That is the only thing I came up with on a search. Blue wolverine was the name. It was for a big block mopar. Someone on another forum had a cam with rdp11 stamped on it and was asking about it.

That m63hu is probably really M63HV which would be a Melling high volume pump. Just my  :2cents:
