OK...just for fun, Insurance on a Helcat?
« on: January 22, 2016 - 09:58:44 PM »
I was on the phone with my auto insurance making some change to my policy and looking at what it would cost to add a new car (v6 charger), the agent mentioned a Hellcat, and just for fun she calculated how much it would increase my monthly insurance cost.

Needles to say I was very surprised at the result.

I realize that insurance costs vary between the U.S and Canada and from province to province, but what do you think it would cost for you to add a Hellcat charger to your policy.  Of course if you have added one, please feel free to tell us what the cost was.

I will leave the poll go for a bit and tell you what the cost for me was.

Here's something I find interesting regarding insurance cost...I have a lady friend who is a State Farm agent who lives and works in the Birmingham AL area, she has a good driving record owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T MSRP about $27K & her monthly cost of insurance is about $120.
I live in Huntsville AL, have a 2013 Dode Challenger R/T Classic MSRP about $37K & my monthly insurance cost through State Farm is $61.  We have similar coverage & driving records, I get a slight break for low miles driven..So why the huge difference?  WHERE we live..

My new 21-yr old daughter-in-law had a similar experience moving from Bradenton FL to Huntsville AL. Insurance on her 2002 Mustang V6 went from $160 a month to $100.

Another factor according to my friend is the experience/cost to repair of a given model. For instance she acquired a new Mustang GT & the cost to insure it is about the same as the Hyundai.....Go Figure...LOL

Yeah, I hear you there are a lot of variables...and it will be different for everyone, so just take your best shot at what you think it would increase insurance by.

Just to add some info, my current DD is a 2002 Saturn SC1.

I had a sc2 for a few years, and loved the mileage it got but often wondered if I ever got hit what would happen.  To me it was like driving a big Tupperware bowl.  :smilielol:  parked it and didn't drive it for 3 years so I donated it to kars for kids charity  insurance on it was less than 300 a yr.

OK so votes are in...one guy got it right...it would cost me a total of $24 a month to add a Hellcat Charger.

I think that is a steal consider my current Saturn POS!

Now I just need to work on my wife and convince her its a good buy.

:ylsuper: that was me who got it right! Here was my thinking, 1 most of us are getting some age on us, 2 most of us wouldn't use it as a daily driver, 3 and most of us don't have any young drivers in our household, or simply wouldn't allow them to drive it if we did. So I believe the insurance companies know these facts as well, that being said it really would depend on driving record and your deductibles. I just figured that's roughly what I could insure one for. Now the question is: are ya gonna buy it?

If you have ever taken stats insurance is just a giant probability equation.

How many hell cats have gotten into accidents? probably not that many. How many in your area have gotten into an accident? likely zero. Hell half of the hellcats seem to still be in their wrappers and for sale on ebay.

Average age of owners, how often the are driven, average miles per year on them, population in your area that the car can run into etc...

so the probability of a Hellcat needing an insurance payout? small so your insurance premium is small.

I went from an audi S4 to a Hyundai accent and my insurance went up for that exact reason.

...I sold the S4 because modifying your daily driver is an idiotic idea and takes away it's reliability so I bought one of the cheapest new cars I can buy with a warrantee and bought the Challenger with the remaining money.
