Help, I Just Got My Challenger & Some Questions
« on: June 05, 2005 - 10:17:56 AM »
Hey guys well, I think I overpaid for the car but, seeing how I rarely see a 71 Challenger around anymore I think what the heck and the car being in fair shape I can't complain really. I drove it 500 miles and it seems to have run a little hot not running it hard. I think the RPMs were kinda of high with a 3 spd auto and 3.55 gears on 14 inch rims. Anyways, the first question I have is where is the best place to buy parts from? Also, would buying repo or new bumpers be cheaper or would having them rechromed? If so where can I get them rechromed? In addition, my car doesn't have a fender tag or build sheet. How can I figure out what the original color was and what options came with the car? Thank you. Nice website here.

The best place to buy drivetrain parts is  Mancini Racing If your looking for restoration parts for the body and/or interioir, than go to YearOne, but be aware that YearOne is not the cheapest place. If you dont already have an eBay account, I would strongly recommend getting one. You can find a lot of parts that aren't reproduced on eBay and the ones that are being reproduced are usually cheaper on eBay. I have heard mixed reviews about the repo chrome bumpers, I personally have a repo front bumper that was beautifully done. However, my dads car has a rear repo bumper and it is peeling in two different areas. I either got lucky or my dad was unlucky, either way I will be having my rear bumper rechromed because its in very good shape. If your bumper is straight, than get it rechromed. There are plenty of places that do rechroming, just open you phone book and make a couple calls. As for the fender tag/broadcast sheet, if you dont have them then your pretty much SOL on the options that came with your car. Are you sure the car doesnt have a broadcast sheet still in it??? they can be found in a couple of places.....Ohh yeah and  :worthless:

Killer Mopar gave you some great advice. Also click on "tools" at the top of the homepage. There are links to parts places. I'd recommend getting the bumpers rechromed. If you can't find something local, send me a "PM", and I'll give you a link or two. As for what color your car originally was... try taking off a door panel, or removing the package tray (where the speakers are) from the back. Look for overspray.

I bought some interior parts from Legendary Auto Interiors,  they were A LOT cheaper than Year One or Paddock, and the parts that I got were good quality.
(No, I don't work for them).
