Does anyone know what the stock angle would be on the transmission?  I take it, it would have to be down some right or is it level?

I don't know what the correct factory angle is, but it is down. This is proven by the angle of the intake manifold where the carb sits.

Interesting. How do you go about to measure the angles on the tranny and the rear end?

Used this one from harbor freight, small and good magnets. Did it with a socket on u joint bearing end caps.

Aha, maybe I can just use my iPhone....it's pretty accurate.

Quote from Cass (Dr.Diff) from another forum.
"If you measure a stock A,B or E body, you will find the static pinion angle is 2 degrees negative relative to the transmission center-line."

Not quite following Dr. Diff.
I wonder if under normal loads the pinion angle would be parallel to the trans angle while driving?  :dunno:

I think thats the goal, setting it so it will be as close as possible to parallel under load.

I know what all the "perfect world" layouts say, but am I correct in summarizing that the rear diff is required to be pointing down 3 degrees more than whatever the tranny angle is ?

Your trans can be on the left OR right side.

Those pics are operating conditions with engine torque applied? To set up the diff you need to rotate the nose of the diff down about 3* so they line up like your pics while driving. Correct?

The diff angle should always be down about 3 degrees so that the lines are parallel under acceleration.

Kevin, yours might be going beyond parallel under acceleration due to your high horsepower and movement of your rear end?

Originally this pic I feel this says not to have the diff down, but under power it would be in-line. So what should the diff be at while not under power ?

I would say "zero".

Anyone else?

This really isn't that hard to understand.

But "while not under power" was your question.

"Under power" puts you back to the "parallel" picture.
