:roflsmiley: if we had only of known then what we know now... I have had my missteps as well to a degree but when it came to Mopars, I always tried to save them when I could. Didn't stop me from parting a few out or even wrecking one or 2 but I did try. Now, when it came to Chevys, I never had any love for them; sold a 61 ragtop 283 4spd car for $150, sold a 64 SS Malibu 283 4spd perfect body (needed paint) and interior for $300 and kept the battery. The guy who bought it from me immediately kicked the windows out, torched out the wheel wells and made a dirt track car out of it. I sold a 70 454 SS Chevelle for I think $200 and the body and interior were pristine. Even has a cowl induction hood, red and black car. Got it from my cousin who ripped the motor out for his 69 SS and within 1 week and blown it up.

LOL!!! that's my boss's favorite car. Would love to see his face reading that. I can't say I've had any regrets of my own. I was born a couple decades too late. My 73 is my first muscle car and my first mopar. No plans on getting rid of it unless I can find a 70 lol.

That particular car was interesting, I had a 74 Roadrunner at the time that I was having painted and I needed a driver. A buddy and I went to a local GM dealership who was having a indoor sale (ND in the winter..) as we knew all of the car lots and the car community was relatively small back then. I knew one of the sales guys and told him I was looking for something cheap; he responded that he had "just the thing). So here was this 64 SS sitting in the back of the service bay; hugger orange with a black interior. Everything was there and in very good condition; exterior trim and badging, interior complete with console and if I recall a factory tach. Price was $150 and the engine was pretty tired but it did run and drive so I bought it. I was approached by one guy later who wanted the trim for his car (no repops back then) and my boss who wanted as a dirt track car. I was working at an exhaust place at the time and told both that I needed the car until my RR was done. A few days after I had purchased the car while I was at work (which was on main street), this guy came in and asked "who owns the 64 SS", I responded I did. He asked what I had paid for it, I told him that it was none of his business and why he wanted to know. He told me he had sold the car to the car lot because he needed the money but loved the car and wanted it back. I told him he could have it back for $300 in a week when my RR was done. He complained he didn't have any money etc but that he would try. I told him what my boss wanted to do and the guys started crying. I felt bad, but life had to go on. So in the end, I took the battery out, sold the trim and badging (and I think the interior) to the one guy and the body with drive train to my boss who made a roundy rounder out of it.

That poor guy probably spends all his time sitting drunk at the bar now, telling everyone who will listen, the story of his old Malibu SS that some careless Mopar guy let get turned into a dirty derby car back in the day. Lol! What a hilarious read. But things were likely far different then. I'm sure even the most diehard dodge fan probably wouldn't do that to a Malibu now hah!!

As much as I hate to admit it, I wouldn't do that today. Not the car's fault it was born a Chevy... LOL. it was a nice car though overall. A quick rebuild and paint job and that car would have been like new. No rust or body damage at all. The chrome was perfect and the interior was really nice. Evidentially, it had some highly sought after options as the guy who bought the trim and interior was very happy. On well, a sacrifice so another could prosper and survive as well as serve as a faithful dirt track car (it did pretty well as I recall).

They look good enough to have been an option from the factory. Wonder why they never were.
