New guy - Hunting for my father's old AAR's
« on: January 27, 2016 - 01:29:24 AM »
Well as I'm sure you all get a lot here I'll try to spare you the long story of trying to get my dad's car back, but that's what I'm here for!

I've grown up around muscle cars thanks to my dad and his Chevelle. It's been a great experience and these old cars have been a huge part of my childhood. My dad has told me countless stories about all of his old cars and he was pretty big into Mopars back in the day. If I would be able to track down any of his old cars that would be so cool and my dad would love to talk to the owners about the car's history. I know the chances are slim, but he had some special cars so maybe someone, somewhere, has info on the whereabouts of them!

I don't know the best place to post this, probably the "Everything Else" section as it seems to get the most use on this site. But for now I'll post it in the intros just because I'd like to introduce myself as well!

Anyway here are some of his old mopar rides. I've got vintage pics as well as some VIN's which I'll post later. But with only ~2700 AAR's built maybe one of these will stand out just from the description.

- 1970 AAR, sublime, black interior, 4 speed, urethane bumpers
- 1970 AAR, red, red interior, 4 speed, this car actually had a 426 Hemi swapped into it when he bought it
- 1969 Coronet R/T 440, red, black interior, 4 speed, manual brakes and manual steering, my dad actually received a call in the 90's about this car being restored in the Kansas City area but never heard what happened to it after that.
- 1970 Challenger R/T 340, not much info on this one as he owned it just a few weeks before trading it for one of the AAR's

I'll be sure to post up the other information and pictures later.
Looking forward to being a part of this community, you guys have some incredible cars!

Get the vin and look up the hamtramk registry. Barry has a running list of 1970 E bodies and you could probably find something on the AAR's

Thanks for the warm welcomes!  Unfortunately I didn't see either VIN on the AAR registry.  :(

Regardless, here's some pictures of the cars!

Here's a club my dad was a member of back in the day. Top VIN is for the Sublime car, bottom is for the red Hemi swapped car

Zoomed in on the VIN's

Here you can see both cars. Top picture is after my dad finished the engine rebuild on the Sublime car. Bottom pictures are both the Hemi swapped AAR. Someone repainted it with metal flake and did their own rendition of the AAR stripes...dad was not a big fan. Also the previous owner had mounted a 6-pack scoop on a 'Cuda hood.

Here's his '69 Coronet 440

He's got more pictures at home, but this is all I have to go off of for now. Hope you guys can help out!

Something looks fishy (pun intended) on those vins. Specifically the character count...

Haha good joke, but yeah I noticed the 2nd VIN does look off. The first one looks legit but I'm not sure why the 2nd one has a couple fewer digits at the end...

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Does anyone know if there is any way to run a VIN through state databases? Clearly it looks like at least one of the VIN's on the certificate look legit, and it may show up registered to someone in the US who never registered it in the AAR database.
