American Collectors Insurance Raising Rates.
« on: January 27, 2016 - 11:23:25 AM »
Just received our renewal for the 70 Challenger, 41k stated value went from $203 to $299. No claims, changes etc..They said it was due to a rate adjustment throughout all policies of this type.

Any recommendations of other companies to obtain a quote? Tks.

They did the same to me after one year.  I switched to Grundy.

Been with them for over 5 years and no problems. They only raised the premium for automatic "stated value" increases, $5 total.

I was just shopping for insurance about a month ago and found a wide range of rates for my Challenger T/A with an agreed value of $75K.  The quotes ranged from a bit over $300 to over $700 at Hagerty.  Grundy was almost as expensive as Hagerty.  Heacock was a little under $500.  And I finally talked to a broker, Rally Insurance in Volo IL, who specialize in classic car insurance, and they found me the $300 rate.  I believe the name of the company is Classic Insurance.  I have the info at home and can check later.
I used to have all my vintage cars through State Farm, but have been concerned about their "stated value" vs agreed value.  I brushed my concerns under the rug for a while, but recently got my T/A back from the restoration shop and needed to up the value to what it is worth now.  I'd need an appraisal for State Farm to up the value, and for the hassle and expense of getting an appraiser out to the house, it was time to go with a specialized classic car insurer.  They will typically agree to a value based on photographs and a description.
I still have my convertible and my '71 Challenger with State Farm in their classic policies and both are under $300 a year with one a little over 50K and the other a little under 50K in stated value.
You must have your daily drivers insured with State Farm to insure cars under their classic car insurance though.

I have had American Collectors for over 20 years and never had a problem with rate increases. The higher I raised my value the more they charge. I have $150,000.00 total coverage on both my cars and I pay $ 928.00 a year.

I just checked and it is Classic Collectors Insurance by Infinity I got for my T/A, 75k agreed value for $305.
I wonder why there is such a wide price difference in quotes.  Hagerty's quote was over twice Classic Collectors quote.
I looked into getting Hagerty in late 2010 when I bought my 71, and they quoted $375 with a 75K agreed value.  I stayed with SF.  But I quoted with Hagerty again last year and they were now close to $700 for the same car and value.  Nothings changed on my end, same house, same garage, no accidents or tickets, other than I'm over 50 now.  I am confused why they have got so expensive.  Must be the magazine, along with all the bags and pens and magnets they give away at car shows!
When people talk about what they are paying for collector car insurance, the old saying "your results may vary" comes to mind. :2cents:

My policy from Classic Collectors includes an emergency roadside service/towing (rolloff) benefit.  As far as usage limitations, I didn't pay close attention I must admit.  The T/A is in my garage with much reassembly still to come and will be a trailer queen for a while after I'm finished putting it together.  I have 100/300 and if it rolls out of my garage, down the driveway and runs into a car driving down my 25 mph street I guess I'll be ok!
I will pay closer attention if I move my other cars over to them from State Farm.
I'd recommend talking to Rally Insurance brokers, they represent multiple insurance companies and will find you the best deal for the coverage you need.

Just curious, what was you past premium?

Our renewal policy has 1000 deductible, 100k uninsured and 41k value. $299

We reduced stated value by 6k and dropped towing to get it down to $259.
