Raised roof???????........NOT !
« on: February 01, 2016 - 12:29:00 PM »
I came across this on another site and remembered that there was some questions about this car having a raised roof or not.  Anyway, here is the current state of the car.  I think the progression has been nothing but amazing.  To do an undertaking like this certainly has to test your skill level and workmanship.  I can't wait to see this car on the show circuit.

Lovely workmanship, I won't comment on the design though. I guess it's all good as long as the car cover stays on.

That's actually why I like it.  Because it's DIFFERENT!  How many of the same kind of cars can you see before it gets redundant.

If Plymouth made a 4dr E-body I'm pretty sure the roof line would be the same as the 2dr. The roof and wheelbase would have been longer but the windshield would still be E-body with a different back window. An example of a car that pulls this off nicely is the 67 Impala. The formal roof shape on the 4dr looks better IMO then the weird fast back look that year. Mopar already made this cab for the B body so why would they put it in E bods too?

In the case of this car they used the B-body cab but they should have chopped the roof and doors to match the proportions of a stock Barracuda. I think it would have been easier then most cars because of the straight up and down nature of the A B and C pillars and door frames. The side glass wouldn't need to be changed because it's pretty square and would fit in the new openings. (just not go up as high) I might try a photochop later today to show what I mean.

Aaron Beck had the right idea IMO

Not knocking the quality of the work, paint looks great etc... love the details like the panels , door latches etc. Great stuff just the roof looks off.

I don't know that I'd say the roof profile is necessarily taller than a stock E body, but the side windows certainly are taller and cut into the roof line. I think that gives the illusion that the roof is raised.

Thank you for saying that.  What you just described is what a 4 door is that exhibits the same features.  Here are some comparison pics between the 2 and 4 door b body and the 2 and "4" door E body.

Regarding the other comment made by Moparman82-

Yes, I consider Dave a friend of mine.  While I have not met him, yet (like many others on here), I would like to meet him and the rest of you eventually.

Great craftsmanship.  The design problem with me is the rear window. Look at the rear window on the B body, the top goes up to the same height as the side windows. On this e-body ...the top sits quite a bit lower.  This makes the view from behind look misplaced to me

I think the rear window looks very similar to what the SE rear window would be.  There are a lot of similarities to the SE rear window in the pic and the opening for the window on Dave's car.  Keep in mind, too, the stainless (I'm guessing its going to be stainless) trim is not installed yet either so that could make the whole appearance change.

Msbaugh, after having the side by side comparison, does the window still look, as you put it, "misplaced"?

Thanks for posting the update....... Stainless around the windows including the doors  and wheels should pull it all together.

I think he said on the other forum that it was going to be a 340 backed to an automatic column shift car.  I seem to recall that he was able to locate a "numbers matching" (lol) warranty block and trans for the car.

That view is straight from the back. It doesn't tell the whole story to me. Doesn't change my opinion, but The build was well thought out for sure. If there was a 4 door SE e-body, idk, I guess it would look kind of like this one. The rear glass looks out of place to me, still think the difference in the top heights between the rear and sides is odd.  I'll wait to see it with the trim and window installed 👍
