How much earlier than build date should a voltage regulator be?

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a NOS voltage regulator to have for my 12/72 built car.
To be correct, roughly how many weeks earlier should the regulator have been built?

No hard set rules...up to 90 days is pretty much accepted..
