New here. Looking to replace my shifter plate on a 73 Cuda and I'm confused.

All the ones I see on eBay have the plastic piece attached under the chrome plate shifter. Mine is pretty deteriorated.

I'm assuming I have to remove the shift knob on my slap stick shifter, unbolt the plastic piece underneath the chrome shifter plate and pull the unit off?

Is there any way that chrome plate can be removed from the plastic piece underneath or do I have to cut it off somehow? I know Mr Moparts sell the chrome shifter plate for about 95 bucks but I'm not sure how to switch this thing out. Obviously I don't know much so anyone with any advice would be of benefit to me. I saw that plate for sale for 65 bucks on ebay but not sure if it's some piece of crap. I'm also unsure if the slap stick shifter plate is different than the regular shifter chrome plate. Thanks to any advice out there.  Love this site.

I think maybe the question you have is how do get the parts separated and the new pieces attached.  The plastic parts, if I recall, are secured  in there by swaging.  If you grind off the swaged contact points (like rivets), you can get it all apart, but I'm not sure what people use to fasten the new plate back on.  (Maybe I'm missing the point)

 :iagree:  the new plate has screws instead of being swaged.
