oil pressure sending unit- Did I ruin it
« on: February 07, 2016 - 02:52:14 PM »
I am putting together my 360 in the challenger and swapped over my autometer oil pressure sending unit. Everything has gone well but today when I was re-installing the signal wire to the gauge I accidentally removed the whole stud instead of just the nut that holds on the wire. The stud has not come completely out but it seems that I cannot re-tighten it. Is it toast?

Can I reuse the stock unit? or will only an autometer unit work with the autometer gauge?

I think I am more annoyed that this unit only has about 75 miles on it.

I think its ruined. The stock OEM sender is not compatible, it has a different resistance value. You will need to order one from Autometer.

Open it up and see what happened, the stud either has another nut inside, or is soldered somehow, you might have twisted it so it disconnected, but there is a chance it can be fixed.

You never know. May be you can fix it. The sender housing is crimped shut so access is next to impossible. There is (was) a very small wire soldered/spot welded to the underside of the stud that pulled out. If you can get a connection to it, the sender should work.  There's nothing to lose at this point.

I want it to look good so it's likely I will get a new one. However I will rip it apart and see what happened and try not to do it again.

Thanks guys.
