The farthest you have gone to haul home a new project?
« on: February 10, 2016 - 08:51:04 PM »
I am trying to finalize a deal on my next car and it will require quite a long road trip. Got me wondering how far you are willing to go to get something you want? I am looking at 2200 miles round trip which will be the farthest I have ever done.

You have me beat. Furthest I went was about 1000 miles to Cullman, Alabama when I dragged home a 55 Belair project.

Good question that got me to checking how far my trip was. Back in the early 1990's I found a car that tweaked my interest. It was located on the upper peninsula of Michigan. It was an interesting trip. Got to see a lot of country and the daughter got the longest trip she had ever been on. She was only 6 at the time. From Spokane WA to Mt Pleasant Michigan and back pegged the odometer at 4056 miles. I drug home a 1 of 400 1970 RT/SE Dodge Challengers with a 383 and 4 speed. It was numbers matching to boot!

4056 miles round trip? Good grief that's a long way! :faint: Grant, you might have the record there. However, we will have to wait for Cody to chime in before we can annoint you as the winner as I think he might have gone coast to coast.

2200km (around 1320 miles) to pick up my beat 70 Hemi Cuda. 2400KM (around 1450 miles) to pick up my 70, 383 Sweptline. Both of those are one way distances.

It was a fun/good trip. If just for the car, maybe not so much fun. Daughter got to play in the big lake and she still remembers going over the bridge that connects the main part of the State to the upper end.

You may be right about CODY, I remember him burning up the highway dragging home another Hemi car. But heck, with a shop like he has, it takes lots of cars to fill er up, LOL. Hope he chimes in.

Had I not already been on the road a few months ago, there was a Sunroof challenger for sale in Colorado. I almost bought the thing. Kinda wish I would have now. I talked with the owner at the time for hours about it. He sent me a ton of pictures.  It was full of options to boot. Alan is now restoring it at his shop.  :banghead:

I guess this one needs to on the "List of those that got away"

Didn't Cody buy a hemi car down here in New Orleans? That had to be a heck of a drive

My '71 Challenger went from Denver to Maine, and the '70 Barracuda came back.  2081 miles each way.

Funny story is my '71 Challenger then traveled over 10,000 miles from Maine to New Zealand.  Damn I miss that car.

Don't know the mileage but we went from Central Fl to the northern tip of Indiana ( Michigan City ) and back for the RT/SE. And I bought an enclosed trailer to bring her home. Non stop both ways, I was a zombie when we got back. I think it was 3800 miles.  :clueless:
