Locking hood pins
« on: February 12, 2016 - 09:29:27 AM »
I have a 73 Challenger. I bought the locking hood pin set from Classic Industries. It didn't come with instructions. I understand the pins are installed on the body and protrude through the hood, like the regular hood pins. It comes with two escutcheons plates and a rubber gaskets for each side. I don't understand how these plates are installed since they have to turn with the lock mechanism.  I looked on line and couldn't find any instructions. Thanks.

it would appear that the plates are attached to the hood like normal; when closed the lock tumblers go through the plates/hood and engage the lock rods that are attached to the body.

The plates can't be attached to the hood since the plates have a keyed hole that holds the lock. Both plates have this type of hole. Since these plates have this type of holes they have to turn with the lock.  I know the threaded posts bolt to the body like the regular hood pins.  This installation really stumps me.Thanks

From the sounds of it, once you shut the hood, you put the plates over the hole, then insert the lock into the center of the plates and lock it down. Cannot say I would use something like this, but it is what it is.

That's how I understand the lock works.  I don' know why they give you two plates. I sent Classic an e-mail to see if they could get me instructions. Thanks
