bad luck
« on: February 13, 2016 - 09:19:25 PM »
Hello guys,
this week I took my 'cuda out for the first ride this year. You can see the outcome in the pictures below. :banghead: :swear:
Looks like I will need new grille and new fender. Does anyone know where I could possibly find good used parts?

No, not my fault. I was in the left line and a girl in the right line suddenly started an u-turn crossing my line. It was not possible to avoid the collision and I hit the rear left corner of her car. But it sucks anyway :(
Hopefully I will find the replacement in mint condition.

That is a sad situation. Hopefully no one was hurt. I would contact Dave at Roseville and see what he has that will get the car back on the road. I have heard really good things about the re-popped 71 grills. From one of the threads, it looks like 71 fenders are on BO. Keep us informed on how the repairs go. At least it is early in the year and you should be back on the road by the time good cruising weather arrives.

Thanks for your compassion guys. No one was hurt and I'm glad it's "just" cracked grille and demolished fender. The accident could have resulted in much more severe damage and even injuries.

Now I need to find a replacement. I think I'd prefer used parts but if the re-popped parts provide good quality, it might be a good alternative.

Oh no, my concern is not about the price. It's more about the quality in comparison to the original parts. I'm using AMD hood and it seems to be made of thinner material than the original. I welded some additional struts into the underhood structure to stabilize it. I'm a bit afraid to face similar in case of a reproduction fender. The second point will be how good it fits in.

this is a perfect example of why dash cams are a must these days. decent ones are under $50 and you can go all out for a few hundred if you want multiple cameras (front/back/sides). it's cheap insurance against the idiocy of others and proving it in court. one saved my ass from an accident this last summer where the driver in front of me slammed on her brakes and tagged the car in front of her, I didn't have time to react and tagged her, so she tagged the car in front of her again.

sorry for your pain, sucks, but could have been worse.  :crying:

:iagree:
Unfortunately dash cams are not allowed around here. They might violate other drivers' or pedestrians' privacy.

If you want a used fender you should try Tony's Parts tonysparts.com or Ebay/Craigslist.

Also check other Mopar parts forums for sale sections and also post a parts wanted add.

Sorry about your car.  We all take this risk if we want drive and enjoy our beloved E Bodies.

Thanks for your replies guys!
I think I could use some more advice. My front bumper has been damaged too. It seems to be bent slightly and the chrome surface is damaged as you can see in the picture. I think it can be repaired and chrome coated again but I still didn't figure out how much it would cost. It might be quite expensive. Do you know about the quality of the reproduction bumpers from AMD? Is there any/big difference in comparison to an original bumper?
I'd like to know if it can be considered to be a good alternative.

I just got new AMDs from Roseville. I never thought to weigh them vs the old ones.  :banghead: I have them on the car and they look great but the only thing I have to compare them to is my old ones which were 42 years old.

If they're looking great and you cannot find any difference to the original, then maybe it's worth a try.

You haven't mentioned the paint.   :pullinghair:
I also have Burnt Orange You will have a problem matching the color unless you
had it painted and still have the correct paint code blend.
I'd paint the hood and complete left side.
