Charger Update - NO GOOD.
« on: June 07, 2005 - 04:48:46 AM »
Went up North this morning (3am) arriving at this guys house at 12:00 noon after breakfast etc had a look. First impressions were good, a few dings and crazy cracks starting to show but nothing major. The paint was a modest 7/10.
Interior was 7/10 was all there but was a little under the weather.
The major problems were the engine noises when we were driving, this thing was S-L-O-W!!!!!  :ack:
VERY sick.  :puke: The diff (Ford 9") was starting to give which is not a good sign when a sick 440 can destroy a 9" Ford.
Must mean there's been some big revving stuff going on, wreck the engine and diff at the same time, who knows.  :dontknow:
Any how for the kind of money I was looking at spending this was not worth it. It was always at the top of the price list for a clone, maybe a 6/10 #'s car would be worth it but a sick 440 clone thats been thrashed?  :grinno:
The seller was pretty darn honest though telling me about how the diff was "sh!t" as if it was his (he was selling on behalf of an overseas friend) yes, it was all legit.  ;) he also said a lot of the guys friends have been using as of late and the car is losing it's quality etc....
Not been taken care of.  :(

It was a simple decision to make and straight from the beginning I have told you all, that I wouldn't hold my breath and that I'd go up there with the worst thing in my mind and I'm glad I made the right decision, hard decision for a 23 year old MoPar nut to say no to "what looks like" a nice black 1969 Dodge Charger.  :) 8)

One things for sure........I can't wait for "Lucy" Challenger R/T  :D ;D

Could have been worse... you could have gotten home, and then had the motor puke.

Alls well that ends well.

:iagree:  Glad you followed your instincts NZ, I've heard to many stories of people buying just looking at the pics and ending up with a piece of $hit. Just think, Lucy will be done shortly!!!! Then   :burnout:

Thanks everyone.  ;)

Mike: YIP!!! Thats the one. If I didn't have Lucy and was ,looking for a clone or my first MoPar to work on it would have been a sale.  :)

73Challenger360: To get a car shipped would cost between $2,500 - $5,000. I know the good thing is I have mates like you guys spread around the USA who could have a look in person depending on it's location of course.  ;) It's an option but  A LOT of work. Thats why this Charger was so good. It was so convenient being in New Zealand and it was black everything I wanted, except not good enough.

2-4now: Yes, I knew about the Ford 9" before I bid on the auction.
Wasn't worried as it could always be changed but it's also an "OK" rear end.

Thanks everyone, for the pick me ups.

I'll keep searching and waiting for Lucy.
