    Color of This B Body

    Need to paint new steel wheels for this Mopar (62 Polara) and need to get a color that is close.  It has 14" on it now and I'm getting 15".

    It is close to original 1962 color of Deep Cordovan but lighter. 

    I think it is closer to a bronze from either 1971 Autumn Bronze, 1968 Turbine Bronze or 1970 Burnt Orange.

    I want to buy the spray cans from Automotive Touch Up.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Of the three choices I'd say Turbine Bronze is closest but I don't think any of those are real close... I think the color was pulled at random from a generic color chart...  Kinda like this page... Scroll down & there are lots of choices... Go to your local paint supply & they'll have something similar..

    you might want to just drive it down to a local paint supplier and have them scan the color for a better/closer exact match. especially since it was repainted at some point, you may get pretty close based on 'it looks like XYZ', but so many manufactures have slight variations that a paint scanner can pick up on and decode properly

    I've done the PPG/Sikkens camera matches... They get you close, certainly close enough for painting wheels....  But don't expect a panel to panel butt match to be invisible...

     What if I left the steel wheels black?  How would that look on this car? ....  :dunno: 

    I was planning on keeping the raised white letters out.

          My thought is black would not look good. Anything close to body color would be better. The white letters, although not period correct are ok imo.   :rebel:

    I blacked out my wheels back in the 90's and eventually replaced with 15 inch ralleys. The original wheels were body color K6. Back in the 60's if couldn't afford chrome reverse wheels you would pull of the hub caps and paint the wheels black.

    sorry mopar jack - but OUCH! That hurt's to look at. I would have gone to the local junkyard and got some other wheels.
    Car is beautiful, though.
    Had a 73 Charger that color. Put wide spaced turbine wheels on it, painted black inbetween the vanes. Looked nice. Way to much trouble to keep them polished back then. lol.
    Sorry, that hurts to look at. Oh god, NO. just, no...

    I'm surprised the cops didn't pull you over to ticket you for that. No offence.

    That was 20 years ago. Today it has 15 inch ralleys but if I ever restore the car it will have the 14 inch original wheels painted K6. If you look at the new cars today a lot of the fancy wheels are black seems to be popular again. My self I like the 5 spoke crager style wheels chrome or polished. I have an SRT with the 5 spoke alloy polished wheel an I love the look.

    Mr. Mopar Jack,

    I gotta tell ya.....I like it.  I know it's not period correct but looks cool.  We can always take the tire off and paint if we don't like or buy custom.

    Definitely gives me something to think about for the Polara.  Your car looks very nice.

    never took the tires off to paint the wheels. Just sprayed with  a rattle can and the paint wouldn't stick to the tire anyway.
