Remote trunk latch. 1970 Barracuda Gr Cpe. convertible.
« on: February 21, 2016 - 06:42:30 PM »
I mentioned my project last year.
The reason for doing it was the key lock for the trunk on a Barracuda Gran Coupe has a cover over the lock.
I noticed the cover is getting lose and afraid it will break off.
I seem to be opening and closing the trunk a lot when cruising and car shows,
I couldn't use the hardware Yearone sent to mount the solenoid.  To cheap.
So I came up with a plan to hide and protect everything.
After half way thru my mopar friend showed me his remote latch on his original owner 71 RR.  #%^^%$' I knew he had a remote latch but
it never occurred to me even when i was trying to locate one.........*^$$#
The remote is built into latch.  Forgot the mopar it is from............daaaaah.
I will find out the make and year of the latch.
Check out my project

Remote works great.
Connected directly to battery peg on firewall connector.
15a heavy duty inline fuse holder in front of toggle switch.
Save wear and tear on Gran Cpe key cover plate.......

Someone on here had pictures and instructions of using a factory Mopar electric trunk latch and modifying to work on a Cuda, this is what I am going to try and do. Very clean.

If you look no page5 of my Cuda build, I show how I modified a trunk release to work on a Cuda.  The ones that work on a Challenger are different because the Cuda uses a lock cylinder off to the side and the lock mechanism must be able to rotate when the key is not inserted. It also uses a rearward facing arm that attaches to the lock rod. I had to use some of the original parts to make this work.
This works with my alarm's key fob to pop the trunk. I had to use the same type of actuator that I use for my power door locks.

Thanks Rob!
Why do I live far from you?
Where were you last month to make me one.  haha
What do you do if it malfunctions and can't open trunk...
I'll send you an email on how I remedy the problem.
There is a latch remote for a 62 mopar I still haven't asked my friend again
what model and year it is from.
He had it installed on his 71 original owner road runner..

If it malfunctions you use the key.

The electric latches that work on my challengers are found in junk yards in 80s and 90s Mopars. But for anything to be used in a Cuda, you have to have a rear facing arm for the lock rod and not just a slot. Using that part off of the original latch takes care of that.

Yea, the first time I looked at it, I had to think about how I was going to get that lever on the back for the rod, now that I see how you did it, I know

After I purchased the solenoid and was planning the install my  mopar buddy showed me his
trunk latch on his Road Runner.
I mentioned this in my previous post.
IT IS FROM A 52 Desoto.
The solenoid is attached to the latch.
The latch is identical to the e-body latch.
DAM.
Searching the internet to locate one. No luck so far.  Like
to have one for the AAR.

I have one of those too, sitting on a shelf that I found at a Swapmeet a long time ago,!i have the vacuum push button to go with it, but you can't use it unless the engine is running and I use my release with my car alarm button.
