For me upgrading to a 4 speed doesn`t hurt value and maybe even increases it but still only a mid to high $20k car.

There are a lot of cars out there to choose from; much better deals to be had.

The problem & reality is that is is too easy to spend 40k restoring these & maybe he has & is trying to recover his investment in it which is exactly why you have to be  very careful what you restore if you plan to sell down the road .

 :iagree: I would add that many people really do not understand this aspect. I have seen people get the "fever" for one reason or another, purchase a car and pay a shop to restore/build it; then once they get it the "magic" wears off after awhile and it becomes garage art. Subsequently they decide to sell it because from the beginning, they had it in their head the car was worth big $$ because they watched the auctions. However, because they are not really into the hobby, they chose a car that doesn't have the resale value that others do; subsequently they arrive at a position of losing money (sometimes a lot) or keeping a car they don't use or really want.

Then there is another side which is the person who "kind of" likes a specific model (like a Cuda or Challenger) but sees the market and sees opportunity based on the market. So they go our and find the first Ebody they can and throw some money at it with dreams of making big $$ off of it (see these guys at a lot of car shows for some reason). Since they really don't know Mopar's or worse the specific models, they don't buy the best most desirable year/s or model/s (because they have a high initial cost); they end up with a car that they have a fair amount of money in and then realize no one wants to pay what they want. They end up hanging onto the car for a long time or put it on Ebay and hope some dupe jumps on it.

Lastly there is the person who loves a specific model and lusts after one for years. Finally finds a deal and can put together enough money to purchase it. They get the car, spend a considerable amount of money to get it done or partially done but along the way they figure out this is not what they really want (as in the thought of having the car meets the reality of it) and subsequently lose their desire. Then they tell themselves and their spouses that the car is worth huge $$ because something like it sold for 6 figures at auction. They throw it on Ebay, Craigslist, etc but then find out that a 73 318 Ebody doesn't sell for 70/71 Hemi value.

The sad part is....If you were to start with this same 73 Cuda as a project, maybe paying $5K-$10K for it thinking you can restore it cheaper....only to find out it will cost you more then $42K in the end.... :crying:

Exactly, which is why you need to do it for yourself and not to flip. The quick flip people have not done this hobby a lot of good. That said, there are more cars out there than enthusiasts I think. It is very much akin to owning a dog; they like the "thought" of having one, but the realty is far different. Difference here is that many of these people have no idea of worth, cost to build/restore and residual value. I have over 40K in my 73 Cuda and am no where near done, however I also know at the end of the day, it is a 73 Barracuda and will never be worth what I have in it. It is a hobby, a passion and a part of my DNA. I don't care what it is or will be worth. If I ever have to sell it, I will try and get as much as the hobby will bear and smile at the thought of building the car and try and forget about the lost $$. That said, if I did have to sell it, I have no idea what I would ask or what its relative value would be. Would probably end up being a bid or offer deal.

I would of loved to see more pictures than just one side.  But i'm with everyone on the comments. Also agree with don't watch your reciepts when you are building something for yourself to enjoy. It's your toy, not your retirement project. That's how all projects go upside down.  My last car here, I don't/won't save receipts. I'm already retired anyways.  Look at Don's car.  What a car he has. Some visit my shop and think it's a 70k car. I just laugh. It is a toy that Don is going to enjoy for many years, and then most probably hand it down to family, knowing Don..... By the way.... His wife Val is expecting   Congrats to the Moore family

I see it all to.  Also it sure doesn't have 4 spd leaf springs . Just lettin ya know.   And the car was just sprayed blue underneath, not restored.

Much rather have a '72 (no huge bumperettes) or a '74 because they're rare.
