Other than the obvious drain it, support it, carefully unhook it, try to save the oem tank pad and fuel sending unit's oem lock ring and being ready for it to be heavier and clumsier than you thought? No.

Its a good time to add a return line if you don't already have one.  Dave at Roseville has the sending unit.

Drain it, disposable clothes because you will still spill on yourself..., eye protection, gloves, enough gas cans, etc...

I hand pumped what I could out of the tank into an old gas can before dropping the tank just to reduce its weight.   Once I got the tank out, there was still some liquid sloshing around so that was poured into the gas can too using a funnel.   I left the gas can open outside for a couple of days when it wasn't raining to let it evaporate as this seemed to be the safest way to get rid of it.   Just like with those YouTube videos of what happens when people make the mistake of filling their lawnmower gas can with the can insulated from ground (like sitting on a bed liner) and having it ignite, you still have to be careful about static electricity when transferring the gas, even if it's old.

You're probably already considering it, but just in case: plan on replacing anything rubber around the tank including the grommets for the fill line and the vent tubes.   My metal vent lines were all corroded beyond recovery as well.   Good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. Yes I'm converting from Carb to EFI. I am running the return line as well. I have the tanks inc sending unit and pump already installed.

So There are the two straps that hold up the tank. How does the fill tube connect? I assume Ill have to bolt it as well.

How are you running power and ground to the pump? On the outside or through the cabin?

Don't forget there's supposed to be a ground strap from the tank to the body to allow the sender to work properly. If you hadn't already figured it out, the tank straps only hook into the body at the front and you can give them a lift and 1/4 turn to get them out. The fuel neck just pulls out of the rubber grommet. As in many things, a wee dab of Vaseline on the tube will greatly ease it's entrance to the tank- ahem.  :grinyes:

You also need to run a relay for the fuel pump

Great thing about having an electric pump - is you can easily drain a tank.
