exhuast won't fit...help
« on: June 09, 2005 - 08:21:18 PM »
i bought a 3" Flowmaster exhaust made specifically for a e body, and i went to install it today but the pipes won't hook up with the headers. i have hooker headers. everything else looks fine except when you go to connect the H-Pipe to the headers the pipes that go inbetween these don't fit (looks as though the headers are too far apart for the pipes).has anybody else had this problem if so what did you do?

you are mixing makes , I doubt the flowmaster pipes were designed for Hooker headers , all you need is a piece of pipe to slip into the H pipe to extend it

How much are "off" by ???

Keep everything "loose" as you assemble.

work your way from the rear going to the front

There's geometry at work against you if you try to join it up in the middle.   (IE: assemble some of the front, then some of the rear and finish at H pipe,  the pipe will sit right wwhen there in place but getting them there the angles are off   )

I have Tourque Tech 3" with Flowmasters for E-Body and sure as S**t it didn't fit to my hookers. I had to get two 1 ft. 3" pipes and find someone with a mandrel bender and bend them to the right spot.
The fun part was driving to my buddies house with open headders.

How is the install with those hooker headers? As painful as some of the non tti threads?

I have installed 3 types of headders on my 383. Dynomax, headmen and Hookers.
The hookers were a challenge but at least they were pre dented for the steering shaft. As the others were "universal type fit" yeah. After a few pops with the hammer to clear the steering shaft.
I had to lift the motor in all cases. I think you could do it without doing that but I didn't want to dammage anything. I would gladly reinstall the super comps over the others anytime.

Theres an engine building shop in my city that has some e body headers from hooker for 192$. Not sure what model or the condition as its not specified on the website. I'll have to inquire about them tomorrow. Thanks.
