    On to the next project - steering pump rebuild

    Well, now my box is done, on to the pump..it was leaking.

    So any tips on getting the reservoir off the pump...this sucker is really on there.






    I have tapped it quite a bit and it does not seem to want to move.

    What FSM says is remove the two mounting studs and the pressure hose fitting , then tap filler tube with plastic hammer to remove the resorvoir. Maybe the mounting studs thread into the housing assembly.

    Thank you sir...that is pretty slick...it did not work for me...but it's pretty slick.

    I currently have mine sitting in some vinegar hoping it will loosen some of the rust that seems to be holding it together.

    I have always intended to get a PS pulley puller but never have; back on my list  :bigsmile:

    I had no trouble with eh pully...it comes out just fine.

    I can not get the pump body out of the reservoir!!

    what puller did you use?

    I have used the same technique as shown in the video several times with success. Also have tried tapping around the outer edge first to try and break it free.

    If and when I do get it off, I will have to straighten the edge of the reservoir.

    No puller.  Mine has the pulley with a nut...no not me...the other kind of nut.

    Plug all the holes but one, and hit it with air pressure... :dunno:

    Man was that sucker in there!!!

    BFH did the trick.



    I used the jaws of my vice to support the reservoir on both sides which allowed me to pound a little harder...I needed to.  Bit of a pucker factor!!

    Bent the lip a little...



    I taped it all back so it looks better.

    There is a little bit of rust under the o-ring of the pump body.



    little in the lip of the reservoir too.



    I have the reservoir sitting in a bit of vinegar to get rid of the rust.

    The pump, I will just it with a wire wheel.

    here are the guts.



    Next week a little prep for paint a reassembly...I hope, work is getting busy.
