MCG new issue Ronnie Sox's Gran Coupe question
« on: March 11, 2016 - 12:22:32 PM »
So I usually just like reading, (I guess that makes me a troll). I read my new MCG last night, really enjoyed the article about Ronnie Sox's Gran Coupe. I personally favor Gran Coupes. Although I have not owned a Hemi convertible (yet), my favorite ebody I've owned was a 70 BP23N0E. Car was lemon twist with white interior.  Anyways MCG said that white interior GC came with the standard BH BS seats, unless the leather was ordered. My GC was white interior with white GC seats, special pattern and brushed chrome medallions. BTW my father was the original owner so I know it was factory. I have owned 2 other white interior GC another lemon twist and a FC7. Both also had GC patterned seats in white. All three were LA built cars. My question to the other GC fans out there "is this a plant thing or timing or the line ran out of GC seats and made a substitution. :clueless:

Leather was standard on Gran Coupes and vinyl was a delete optional, but the Gran Coupe vinyl seats were available in all colors.

I also had a FY1 Gran Coupe BP23NOB that I was quite fond of, it had black GC vinyl seats. Of the four 1970 Gran Coupes I have owned, none of them came with leather, all vinyl. One did have it in white, it may have been an LA car. I would guess factory mistake, they shouldn't have used the lesser BH BS seats.

I owned a 1970 Gran Coupe convertible and it had the original factory white vinyl bucket seat interior with the Gran Coupe specific pattern and the medallions.

All Gran Coupes that had the vinyl seat option had a totally different grain and stitching pattern than standard BH and BS interiors, including white.  The interior code on the data plate would start with P6 for the Premium vinyl interior bucket seat, P5 for the Premium cloth (houndstooth) bucket seat, and PR for Premium leatheR bucket seat.  Gran Coupes never got a bench seat, so no P4 option code.

Here are the various P6 interior colors (Note P6A8 is a Gran Coupe only interior color!!):

And the P5 interiors:
