Steering Coupler

Anybody know what year this steering coupler is from? It is on my 70 Barracuda and needs to be rebulit.  I don't think its from an E body

At least it looks similar. Now I have to figure out if they have rebuild kits.  If not will an e body coupler fit or has the shaft been modified.

I would think the std rebuild kit should fit , or replacing it with the correct coupler should work also

I will replace with the correct coupler. I just hope they didn't cut the shaft.

I believe it should just slide off, just like the new one.

I know why the steering was so loose no spring.   :pullinghair:             The spring goes on pin first?

Yes, here is the text from the manual

Steering Shaft Coupling Assembly (Fig. 20)
(1) Fill coupling body with grease to approximately 1/2 inch from top.
(2) Place cover and seal on shaft.
(3) Press shoe pin into steering shaft so that it projects an equal distance on each side of shaft.
(4) Place spring on side of shaft, straddling the shoe pin.
(5) Place shoes on pin ends with flat side toward spring engaging tangs.
(6) Squeeze shoes together, compressing spring, and push assembly into coupling body (Fig. 29) with gauge hole in shaft aligned with master spline in coupling.
(7) Drive in a new dowel pin flush to outer surface of coupling body.
(8) Position seal and cover on body and crimp

I think you can put a new spring in with out removing the pin.

Yeah you can but I want to put on a lower column bearing so it has to come off.

You'll need two big C clamps is the way I found how to compress the seal tight to tang the edges over.
Have a buddy help out so you have 2 sets of eyes at each end while crimping.
