« on: March 16, 2016 - 08:23:34 AM »
any one have these tires on a 8 inch width wheel?
GYE6015 - E60/15 Goodyear 2/2 Polyglas GT Tire With Raised White Letter
I find two different places that say a 7-8 inch width wheel can be used, the rest say 7 only...

thanks

you have a lot of sidewall to flex & if the rim & tread width are close to the same you will be ok

wheels from summit racing:
56 SERIES CHRYSLER RALLYE SILVER by WHEEL VINTIQUES 15x8
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wvi-56-5812042

and tires from classic industries:
GYE6015-E60/15 GOODYEAR tires
http://www.classicindustries.com/product/camaro/parts/gye6015.html

unless anyone feels fitment of tire on wheel would be any issue?

Why would you choose to run those tires which are obviously pointed to a stock resto but then choose to put them on a wheel thats wider than the factory produced? None of my business, it's your car to do as you please but Chrysler only used those tires on 15x7 rims so why stretch it? The modern equivalent tire size is  215/60-15, the tire manufacturers recommended rim width for a 215/60-15 is 6-7.5 and as mentioned before modern radials are more forgiving than Bias ply tires...

If your looking at wider wheels that tells me your not truly committed to the OE look.. If thats the case than wise up right now & forget the idea of paying twice as much for an inferior bias ply tire just so it'll have a certain "look"...... :2cents:

Buy the wider wheels, buy some decent modern tires, smoke'em & replace'em, have better ride, better cornering, more traction & still have money in your pocket...

Or really go off the deep end, order a set of Year One's 17" Rallies & some real performance tires & never look back...

I see what your saying.....

I guess my main thought was the 15 by 7 rims have a back spacing of 4.25
but had been told the original had a 4.5 back spacing.
the wheels I found with that back spacing was the 15 by 8 rims.

additionally, I'm not a huge fan of the side wall bulged, and I know a rim
and tire with similar width/ tread will help would minimize this.

I also love the look of the correct original goodyear polyglas lettering,
and at this point a few more hundred dollars more for a multiple
thousand dollar restoration doesn't really sway me away from using them.

Here is a couple of shots of mine. Custom rims are 8-1/2 wide with 4-3/4 bs. Tire is 275/60/15. It looks closer in pic to leaf springs than it really is. Bit wider than the e60 more rim and more bs including more sidewall flex because of the radial. No rubbing anywhere. Car is all original pieces. IMOP either wheel choice will work and fit with your tire choice. It just comes down to your visual preference.

Now as for bias ply over radials. I have driven with both and would never go back to bias. Safety, handling, traction, ride, etc... no comparison.  All period correct show piece sure. Other than that nope. Again MHOP.

MIKE.

Bias on our AAR l@@K good sitting still but SUCK when driving on them.
As mentioned poor handling.  Ruts in road toss it around........Maybe power steering would help.......

so,
I check with about 20 tire shops,
but none could tell me if these tires
would fit on a 8 inch rim, so I contacted
Goodyear directly and am awaiting a answer...

I am considering the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R for my next set of tires:
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/street.php?item=SportsmanSR

They appear to come close to the square corner that you get on a bias-ply tire.  But with radials, you will never get it exact, there is always a rounding to it, no matter who makes the tire.

26x10.00R15LT should fit nicely on a 15x8 rim.
26x8.00R15LT for a 15x7 rim.

so,
Goodyear just got back to me and had no information, they actually referred back to the tires shops that I already contacted that suggested to contact Goodyear as they didn't know...... so looks like I will just order 15 7's and hope it all works out. so frustrating when people will sell you items that they have no idea what they actually are.
