Ok...so picked up these babies on the weekend:



they were on this old girl:



I was surprised that the ports were about the same size as my 360 heads (I had heard that the 318 manifolds were smaller ports).

So I test fitted them on the car tonight:





If you look closely, the manifold hits just slightly on the steering box... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:



I think I can grind the manifold down for clearance.  Been a while since I fired it up....I think the engine torques to the passenger side...right?  So I think that it will be ok...but I was hoping to would fit better than that.

I am also a little concerned about the adjustment on the steering box.  The manifold looks like it will make that adjustment difficult, not that I think I will need to adjust that regularly.

So....I think I  can make these work...I think.

If you bring it up here ( or find someone locally) we can angle mill it to get the clearance you need? I've done that a few times on other projects.

Picked up manifolds recently and soaked the rusty one in Vaporust and it now looks great.

It turned the butterfly lime green though.

Access to the bolts that mount the valve block sucks.. And I'm sure you know thats gonna need to be adjusted once the car is running..

Yes the engine will torque to the right unless you are in reverse , these should work well for you  :2thumbs:

Brad,  do you mean mil the mating surface or the spot that it touching the steering box.

Because I was just going to the hit the spot with a die grinder...I think there is lots of meat there.

No, you angle mill the surface that mounts the manifold to the head to change the entire  angle of the manifold.

I had to do this on my headers to gain clearance. I spaced my engine up 3/8". This put the headers in close proximity to some components that a 1-2* angle change would correct. I welded all around the exhaust ports on the headers to build them up about .125" then had them milled at a 2* angle so when they were bolted to the head, the collector was moved over about an inch. All the tubes between the head and collector also moved corresponding amounts.

 :iagree:  Yes , mill the mating surface , not sure about the die grinder route might cause it to crack?  I'd mill it something like 1/16 to zero on the mating surface to slightly change the angle usually does the trick.  That is assuming moving the  pipe mating surface 1/4 - 3/8 in towards the block wouldn't cause any issues?

I like this plan because any time you can move the whole heat source away from gear box the better.
And yes the ports on 360s are significantly larger than the non Magnum 318s. I put 360 manifolds on a 318 years ago and the opening was larger than the machined 318 faces in the middle. Ended up with a leak

Hmm interesting...and here I thought this was going to be an bolt in deal...guess not.

I will crawl under the car and see if there is anything that will interfere if things more towards the block.

Maybe mount is worn? ,  or you could shim the opposite side mount to get some more clearance? What other vehicles came with Magnum 360's? Van's and.....? Maybe they used a different manifold that will fit better?

Everything I have seen indicates all manifolds for that year are the same.

I think there is clearance underneath to move the manifold closer to the engine...there are two small tabs that are fairly close to the block, but I suspect those are solid and could be machined...maybe.

You can see the two tabs here...sort of.  The gaps look larger then they are.





Also, there seems to be lots of the clearance for the down pipe.

That being said, I have a sneaky suspicion that the motor mount is contributing to the problem.

So I might try that first.

There is one spot that hits on the trans dipstick.  That is just the EGR boss, and I think that is solid, so I can clearance that.
