ring gear marking compound
« on: March 23, 2016 - 09:30:29 AM »
Hi all,
just got my Diff back form the drive line shop.  I'm wondering if I should wipe down the marking compound before I install the diff?  would that compound possibly cause any lube issues or ring gear issues in the future if left on?  :dunno:

Thanks
John

If what you are referring to is the "bluing" that is used to check gear mesh then there should be no problem. If the material is a gear "lapping" type compound then it must go.  :ylsuper:

its a yellow compound for checking The pattern.  its on about 5-6 tooth patterns in a bunch and in about 5 spots around the ring.

If it makes you feel better, clean it off...but it will not hurt anything at all.
