headliner Installation?

I am trying to reinstall my headliner! when I took out the original one I put the ribs back in the holes they came out of. I purchased something to use as roof insulation and it turned out to be to thick!!  : I got sick and ended up in the hospital! and that wonderful boyfriend you are all familiar with lol decided to help(ha ha!!) and took out that too thick insulation and the ribs too. well I didn't mark which holes they needed to go into. Now finally I want to try and finish that Job. can't have a shop do it because I made the headliner myself! and they won't install a homemade headliner(I've asked!!) There is a choice of 3 holes for each rib which one does it go in! or if I choose how do I choose??? help!!
I have been putting this off but If I want this darn thing to drive I need to do first things first and this is it!! Thank you!!!

Good luck.  My daughter and I just installed the headliner in our 'Cuda and it helps if you have a second person.  Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think it matters which hole they go in, whichever one will make the headliner tighter.  The big thing you have to worry about is which rib goes in what order.  I am sorry I can't be more help, but I am sure somebody here can.

Thanks the rib order is no problem  I already put them in the headliner!! Thank goodness!!!! :thumbs: So it is the wholes I am worried about!!

Why do you feel it is a 2 person job? I am going to be doing this one of mine solo!! do you think that will be a problem? should I try and recruit some help?

What year car do you have and do you have 4 or 5 bows?

I have a 73 and it has 5 bows and oh boy when I get done with that one I think the 71 is next and I don't know how many bows that one has!! it is now all covered up!! I'll check later today!!

My 73 Challenger had the bows in the middle holes.  The other holes are for adjustment to tighten the headliner if necessary, I think.  My car has 4 different bow lengths, the first two are the same but the 3rd, 4th and 5th are different.

It just helps to ahve a second set of hands to make sure it get the headliner stretched tight enough.  My 16 year old daughter ended up doing the second half of ours alone, but there are some wrinkles in it.   there are other threads on this site that go into detail about installing headliners.  Try doing a search on headliner instalation and reading those.

From what I have heard somewhere mid 72 the went from a 5 bow to a 4 bow setup. I have 2 73's which both have 4 bow headliners. I used the middle holes when I installed my headliner. Length wise they only fit good in one "set" of holes.

Be careful how tight you pull when you are trying to get it on the hooks at the back window! I did mine three months ago , and pulled the first one too tight ! Oops! Had to spend another $100.oo and try again! Probably should have bought a sowing my-sheen ! ( ha-ha! ) I used the middle holes on mine.
Good luck! And if you have someone who can help , use them ! I did mine by myself, It would have been nice to have an extra set of hands , if for no other reason than to hold the darn thing up so you can see what the heck you are doing !

I can't remember but I think I have maybe $45.00 in materials and god knows how much time!! lol I might have been better off buying one but this way I got the material "I" wanted! I know it is not original but my seats aren't either so I didn't really care!! I like the material I chose!! so that is why I chose to make it myself!! so now I get to install it!! since no shop will touch it !!!! I hope all this great info will help

just going thru some pics I took from the tear down and noticed these two pics.

I'm MAYBE gonna get a pro to install mine, as I'm worried the liner has lost its flex and i'll bugger it up.

assuming these too long hooks are still in the right box, what do they do ?

I have forgotten.... (sheeeeeesh - twas Sept 29 when I pulled it apart.... farkkkkkk where'd the time go....)

Well I was informed these are needed to hold the liner tight from the windshield back.
 I can picture them in a box of parts I had but I just wonder where that box is....

Anyone got some sitting around they could measure so I can make some   What a stoopid thing to lose.....
