After I asked every upholstery shop in the area to do the headliner installation for me with no response, I elected to do it myself. Rear window and windshield was removed. I placed the bows in the headliner and installed the hooks in the rear. Centering the head liner, I worked it forward to the windshield and outward to the door frames, keeping it as tight as possible. Spray water on it and use a hair dryer or heat gun( be careful) to work out the wrinkles and loose areas. I didn't want to do this job, because I hate it, but couldn't find someone willing to tackle it. The job came out ok but not OEM. I would study up on the process as much as possible, then go for it. I would use OEM type headliner insulation or fiberglalass insulation and contact cement spray. Do not use carpet underlayment as it is flammable. Fiberglass or Rockwool is the way to go. This headliner install may have been the worst part of the resto for me. Only because I hate doing upholstery.
