1974 Grill
« on: June 13, 2005 - 09:12:14 PM »
Hey I found this pic of a 1974 Barracuda, I was wondering if this is the correct color for the grill?  I found this pic on a barracuda history page.

Just checking, I have seen others painted this way and since it was on a history page I thought I would ask.

As far as I know, they only came in one color with orange highlights.  Not positive though . . .  :dontknow:

As far as I know they were all grey and black with chrome accents and had orange around the headlights.

I thought I recently read that most were grey, but certain colors were painted the color of the car.

Only on the 1971 model were the grills painted body color.

Aside from 71, 72 had color keyed grills available, but not 73 and 74.  I don't know all the details, but I am sure it is similiar to 71 where it was a select number of colors, and probably tied into the paint option where the hood was blacked out less the 2 scoops.

Well I went looking for some info on this and did find that in 1972, 20 exterior colors with lemon twist being the only color to cost extra, 3 colors of vinyl roof and 5 interior colors.  The only other paint choice I see is a mirror option.    :dontknow:   Does anyone have a 72 with a factory painted grill??   :dontknow:

I would think it was part of an option group?  Definately was available though.  Common knowledge that the 71s were available with color keyed, but I have never seen how they were even dictated.  Rubber bumpers required them of course, but how did some chrome bumper ones come with or without??  I have a copy of the salesman order form for 71 barracudas, and no where on it does it mention where you could choose a color keyed grill with a chrome bumper.
