Retrofit New Challenger Side Mirrors on 70-74 E-Bodies?
« on: March 27, 2016 - 10:58:40 PM »
Has any member retrofit new Challenger mirrors on a older 70-74 E-Body or is there a kit to do this. Does anyone have information on that subject?

why in the heck would you want to graft mirrors that stick out like Shrek's ears onto your car?

I looked at this pretty closely at one point for my Cuda, they will not look very good overall. They are too large and stick out too much. Mounting them might be an issue, but anything can be done. If you are looking for something different than stock mirrors, you might want to look at a Miata or one of those cars; one of them has mirrors that look promising.

I am using mirrors from these guys http://www.visionhotrod.com.
They are not as big and are more proportioned in my opinion.  The base gets sanded down to the contour of the  car to fit then you drill it and use a thread insert.

Cool, I would like to see them. I was pretty hot on finding some different mirrors for my Cuda, but never did. I have 2 sets of factory mirrors which I am intending to use now, but I am not too far along if I found something else. About how much were they?

Here are some pics you need to position these carefully and sand them down to the contour as I said before. I also sanded the base more at the rear of the car so when the mirror is adjusted to my desired position it will not be sticking out if the housing.  I don't know if everyone will like these mirrors but I do and it's my car.  It worked out the best wih the mirrors moved closer to the front of the door than the original.

They appear to look pretty good. How much are they? How do they attach?

They attach with threded inserts.  Once you have them fitted you drill a pilot hole then there was a self tapping nut insert two per mirror.  Once I had the inserts in I traced it on the door and drilled the two holes on each door then screw it with two bolts.  The mirrors take some work but are solid when done the finish will also need a little sanding and maybe a skim coat.   The prices are online it looks like the basic mirror is currently $146 Canadian.  I bought them a few years ago when I was in the area and he gave me a discount.

I like them, just not sure I want to spend $300 for a set or not. I wish the stem was a little thicker.

If you decide to get them just take your time when fitting and sanding them.  If you have any questions the owner was a nice guy and he can help you out.  When I bought them the business was a one man show.
