QA1 K Frame Opinions?
« on: March 28, 2016 - 07:28:14 PM »
Has anyone replaced the factory front  K Frame with a QA1 assembly? What do you think about before/after difference? Better handling etc? Just wondering if it is worthwhile. Thanks!

The QA1 K frame won't automatically produce better handling over the stock unit. By their own admission, the QA1 unit is nearly as heavy as the stock unit but does have a significant increase in rigidity and some extra clearance. The rigidty is single digit increase and most likely not felt in the seat of the pants. The extra room will be immediately noticeable.  If you are pushing the envelope in speed, performance, and handling, you might notice an improvement. If its a cruiser, you probably never will feel the difference.

While I have no experience with it , IMO it's not worth the money over rewelding and adding a few gussets on your stock k-frame.

As noted, not much lighter and main selling point it rigidity and clearance. While I haven't had real-world driving feedback, I can say that I like it so far - quality is there, sure seems more rigid than the one I removed, and the clearance is definitely there... made installing front engine pieces a lot easier and imagine I will discover the extra space will make a lot of stuff easier in the future. Have a feedback thread that I plan on updating once complete:

Thanks for the info guys! It doesn't seem worth it (to me anyway). I'm thinking to re-weld and gusset the stock K frame as Brad has pointed out.   :2thumbs:
