Dougs Headers and a 727 trans

Just installed a 440 and was hooking up the 727 trans. Ran into a problem that has me baffled. The lower rod that connects the shifter  to the trans is hitting the collector on the header. Has anyone ran into this problem? What else can be done besides a cable use shifter? I am useing the D452 headers.

If it is a column shift, there are larger offset shift bell-cranks available from header manufacturers (they will specify them in 'requires item...' in application info), or you can make one of your own like I did on my 340 with 727... original was contacting collector like you describe... here is a pic of what I made... not sure about floor shift mods...

Mines a floor shift but that gives me an idea what I might have to do. Thanks

Just flip the linkage around that goes to the torque shaft. It goes to the top instead of bottem

Unrelated question. Do you have fast ratio arms?
If you do , did the headers fit without mods?
If you don't can you measure how much clearance you have between the pitman and idler arms to the header?

One quick question for the Doug's installers... I am getting ready to pull the trigger on purchasing a set, but they say you need a mini-starter? Is it possible to use a stock starter with 727 column shift????

Note to self (and others here)... PerTronix Tech support email says "YES!", mini-starter is required...
