I would like to know what the original lower fender shims looked like from the factory. In my case it's a 70 Challenger, but I would assume they will be the same for all E-bodies. I guess I am a little fussy, but I would like my car to have the correct looking shims. pics are helpful.

To be honest, I have never seen a shim on a Ebody. Cannot say they were not used but I haven't see any I can remember. That said, I will have to shim my finders on my Cuda but I am using after market fenders.

I am interested to see what others say as well.

                  Front end alignment shims as used on the upper control arms of GM cars.  They come in various thicknesses.

I think we are talking about body shims, to align the fenders.

I can't say what factory original was. My car had gm front end alignment shims, just as roadman said. They work perfectly and you don't have to pull the bolt all the way out to put them in.   :2cents:

The ones we always used to see are vaguely U-shaped and the common thickness was 1/8th, but you could get them in 1/16th and Mopars used to use some real thick ones at somewhere near 3/16ths on occasion. They weren't used on every car, just on ones that needed them. I've seen stacks 3/8" thick on occasion and that was from the factory, too. They weren't the same as UCA shims which had a small tail or handle on them to make them easier to install. some had the slot slightly offset from the middle and some didn't. Don't worry too much unless you're planning on entering Pebble Beach. LOL  :cheers:

No they are a washer with a hole in the middle, no slot. :2cents:

I agree. I just took off the fenders from a 70 Charger and they had large round washers of differing thickness on both sides. No slots. The diameter was around 1 1/2 inch or so with a smaller hole. These fenders had clearly never been off the car until I took them off.

I seem to recall that I found the same washers on my 70 Challenger when I took those fenders off 6 months back.

So clearly they were "fender washers". Makes sense, they would stay in place while moving the fender front to back and they would be wide enough to cover the slotted hole at the bottom of the fenders.
