What is the needed amount of vacuum to properly operate the braking system for a stock 440 with power brakes? :clueless:  I assume you measure this at an idle . . .

12" and higher would be optimal, once you get into bigger cams and that number drops you need to either look at vacuum canisters to help boost that or go a different route.

Do you have a dual diaphragm booster?

If you don't have enough vacuum I would highly suggest going with hydraulic set up instead of a vacuum pump.  They are obnoxiously loud.

Regular booster 12" diameter 3" thick
Dual diaphragm 8 " diameter 6" thick

I added an additional vacuum canister, because I was at 10 inches at idle
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
