No dashboard light, rear lights, or park lights
« on: April 08, 2016 - 03:03:24 AM »
I have no dashboard light, rear lights, or park lights, but main head lights, brake lights, indicators and hazard lights are working.
Since all the lights that aren't working are supposed to come on when flicking the light switch to the middle position, I suspect the problem is a faulty switch.
Is there anything else I should check before buying a new switch?

All fuses are ok.

Thank you very much!
Slotts is a good guy, I've bought a dashboard light dimmer from him before.

I would test for power out of the switch , you could have ground problems but likely the switch is the problem  if you use relays for the headlights it removes a lot of load from the headlight swiitch extending the life

Turns out it wasn't the switch.

I tried swapping with the switch in my other Challenger, still the same.
(The other will get relays and more modern headlights, kit already ready to go)

Both switches tests the same, middle two prongs have connection when in middle position, and also the outers when in up position.
Isn't there some kind of ballast lurking behind the gauges that might be bad?

Well the two inner spades on the switch are on a different fuse .

In my FSM  1973 book

the  -Map,glove,license,sidemarkers,tails,cigar,park are on  20amp fuse cavity 4

Check to see if  you have 12volts on both sides of all fuses , the old fuse holders spoil real easily .

Did you confirm you have 12 volts on one of the inner spades?

lulurocks, thak you very much for helping me out here.

In the end, turns out the problem was me.  :dupe:
Somehow I've managed to convince myself that I heard beeping on my multimeter when I tested the fuse.
However, when checking for voltage on both sides it turned out to be bad.
New fuse, problem solved. I shall now find a rock to hide under.
