Frame rail replacement. Need help
« on: April 09, 2016 - 11:58:12 PM »
Ok guys, this is a big one. Ive got the k frame dropped on the challenger. And the drivers side frame rail is badly rusted. It needs to be replaced. I want to do this myself. I need to know how to go about doing it.

Wow that's one of the rustiest rails I've ever seen. Removing it should be easy at least.

Yeah. The upper control arm bolts and bushing has fuesd together. It will be a job to replace, im sure. Still dont know how to approach it. Other than measuring alot.

support k member. Bolt it to the existing frame rail. Bolt the new frame rail to k member. This will give you the left to right dimension.  From there  square and level everything up tack weld in place. Install new inner fender. Tack radiator support back in place. Finally check hood, fender, front valance alignment. This should get you in the ball park. Hope this helps.

before welding anything carefully measure everything and adjust to the frame alignment specs. They are in your fsm if you have one if not someone here will have a copy for your year. plumb, level and square everything, and before you final weld anything test fit all your panels

Just checking out all the work you did from your Facebook pics. Nice work. Impressive how much you got done. I have a 70 Challenger like that which will need similar work so I'm anxious to see how your frame rail turns out.

Thanks.  I try to keep everyone up to date. I know it's fun to see a car get restored. And the guys here are great. Lots of knowledge.
