Roof Skin adhesive to center support

I've seen videos of folks putting an adhesive on the center support and the roof skin I presume to prevent "oil can" and vibration.  Is this necessary?  If so, the adhesives I've seen are metal to metal and I've already painted the surfaces with primer.  What is the the appropriate way or product to use?

For that brace I used Fusor 121, it's a fexible foam product - very messy but expands well to fill in gaps.

Thanks.  Does the foam fill the entire channel of is it like seam sealer and it is applied to the wings and pressed against the skin? I like the idea that it is foam and probably flexs with the skin I presume?

BTW - can it be used effectively on painted surfaces?

Not that it will happen, but if you have a straight roof now, bonding it may pull the A-surface to the reinforcement, slightly, causing deformation of the A-surface. I am not sure how common it is with sheet metal, but "read-through"/print-out is common with composites if one isn't careful with bond gaps.

It does stick to painted surfaces (and clothes, skin, etc) extremely well and it does flex.  I didn't fill the middle channel, just the wings as you mentioned while the brace was already installed.

Thanks folks.  My gap at most is 1/16-1/8 and almost at contact for much or it.  Looks like the factory did not apply adhesive. So I guess my quandary is to adhere or not adhere?

Personally I would probably utilize a piece of Dynamat type material in between that seam and the roof. I would also add a couple of 3/8" round rods forward of and behind that bracket, welded on the ends. Dynamat between them and the roof skin.  (Johnscudashop has a thread on this. I've never done it but I plan to).

I used ProForm seam sealer #214. You can also use the #224 which has more texture and is actually a urethane. I just cut the tube to have a small hole and gunned it into the aforementioned gaps. There is no apparent transfer to the skin and it is made to be flexible and paintable and I applied it over the epoxy.  In Canada, it's less than $15 a tube and it'll go a long ways. if you're really fussy, a flux brush drawn slowly over it will give a finished appearance- not usually a concern under a headliner, but different folks.....
