Well done, I'm sure you're not happy about the extra expense, but it looks the best solution.

Not that bad, 50 bucks for the bellhousing and 150 for the starter, comparing to cutting up my new TTI's, speding a lot of time cutting/welding the header pipes, then recoating them....

Was the top starter bolt on yours always a through bolt?
I stripped the top bolt hole on mine slightly and will have to drill for a through bolt.

No, its not a though bolt, both have threads in the starter, its a bolt from my old starter, with threads on both sides, something else was attached to it, a heat shield I belive.

I'm hoping to get it drivable to next summer, I have to at least modify the T-bar crossmember, slim it down, the NAG1's connecting plate to the drive shaft ends up right on the crossmember. Can probably see how it all fits in this fall. (if work dosen't get in the way again...)

Here is an excellent video on how to change the bellhousing on a NAG1 if anyone else wants to do this.

I just pulled a 04 Durango 5.7/545RFE, I will be stabbing it into my 79 w100 stepside. I noticed the 545RFE bell has provisions for starters on either side. The trucks used the drivers side and the durango uses the passenger side. The other hemi I pulled is from an 03 ram 2500. The 545 is a heavy trans it's almost 100 lbs more than the NAG, the ratios are also much wider than what you want for a car thou. The 545 has a one piece case as well.

If Torque= Force x Distance, when in the video he is holding the torque wrench close to the socket rather than at the handle, does that change the torque value?
Or is the Torque value the same and his Force has to be greater due to a shorter Distance ?
40 years ago , I would have known this answer.

Less force to pull a long lever, more force to pull short, same torque.
Skinny kid has to sit at end of see-saw, fat kid closer in to balance.

Supposedly the AWD LX Hemi cars have the starter on the drivers side as well, so there are other donors besides the Jeep around
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

So, have you done this yet? Curious how far you have to tear down the trans to do this swap. The video shows him with the trans mostly torn down.

Have not done it yet, will do it soon, I will post an update when it happens. I don't think you need to take all the guts out though, just the parts thats bolted to the bellhousing.

Well, picked up a builder GC NAG1 today for $140. Ended up pulling the bell housing after I got it home. Pretty easy. Hopefully goes onto my Charger NAG1 as easy.

Good deal for a NAG1! You'll probably get it done before me, I'm getting swamped with work, no time for the car right now. What car/engine combo are you building?
