Vinyl seat rip
« on: April 11, 2016 - 11:57:35 AM »
Hello to the Group!

I have a question related to my back seat. I have a 73 Cuda and the back seat is in almost mint condition, however I have a small (2 inch) rip or tear in the seam of the stitching. So it's more of a rip in the stitching rather than a actual rip in the vinyl. You can't notice it unless you know where to look and to look at it you can see the foam color appear if you pressed down. I can take a picture if my description sucks. I'm looking for recommendations to 'seal' the rip. I'm thinking of applying a white glue (Elmers) which would dry clearless. I just don't want it to grow along the seam of the stitching if someone was to seat in the back. BTW I find the information/members on this site to be extremely helpful.

Thanks!
Jon

Jon - I wouldn't expect Elmers to hold up too well, especially if it happens to get wet.  You might be better off using a brush applied Super Glue (cyano), but you'd have to be very careful to keep it off the vinyl.   I'd wait to see if someone else on the board here has something that worked.  My main message to you is that I don't think Elmers will hold up long.

It's 43 years old...you fix one spot, it's only going to rip somewhere else.
Just install a new cover. :2cents:

Thanks Guys for the feedback. Will consider the product on youtube. I can always try it on another piece of vinyl - like my truck and see how it works.
