Transmission pan Gasket

I was wondering what you would suggest I us on a cork transmission pan gasket. Do you put any sealer on the gasket or just put it in dry and torque the bolts. I can't seem to get the transmission to stop leaking.

If you get a steel reinforced plastic one from the dealer, it holds up very well. I want to say it was factory on 80's transmissions, someone here likely has a part number.

As far as using a cork gasket, i always use a very thin coat of rtv on both sides and tighten it just enough to start to squeeze the gasket.

I use the Chrysler gasket... pricy, but no leaks since installed...  Mopar Part number 2464324AC

Also, if using factory steel pan, make sure the flange is flat where the bolts go through... the pan usually flares toward tranny at bolt holes from over-torqueing over the years to stop leaks (just makes it worse)... use a socket under the lip and hammer them back flat with drift pin/bar stock/old bolt.

But don't over tighten it and squeeze everything out.

Nature will take care of the rest.

The dominant reason for trans pan leakage is always an out-of-flat surface... bolt holes out-of-shape, etc.   DON'T overtighten!!!   Cork-rubber eventually saturates (given a few years down the road); rubber can easily split if overtightened.  Avoid chemical sealers unless you simply want to attach the gasket.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!
