Chassis Stiffening
« on: April 13, 2016 - 03:29:54 PM »
I originally planned to fix all the sheet metal on my car.

Discovered the a pillar was basically shot and was brazed and I couldn't get all the brazing out.

I have decided to replace it and have went ahead and removed the old one. Besides painting the back side/inside  car a pillar and using weld through primer on the spot welds is there anything else I need to do while in there?

I was doing some sanding work( prep for epoxy) on the roof and I noticed that it was vibrating/making an oil can type noise.

I seem to recall a fix for this with added additional bracing on the roof. I can't seem to find it now though. Anyone happen to have tackled this or can tell me the best way to fix it? (Edited to add: I found the post again. It was  Johns Cuda Shop \that showed his method of using 3/8" dia rods fore and aft of the center support and it eliminated the concern I have).

I am also planning on doing some chassis stiffening. What points should I weld/what extra pieces should I buy to get the chassis as stiff as I can get?

:wavingflag: I am picking up some more of there stuff Saturday after the goodguys show in Raleigh!  Great products, I already installed subframe connecters picking up torque boxes and inner fender braces.
:wavingflag:  Quit being offended by everything, I am sure you are doing something that upsets me, but I am not complaining about you!!! It is a free county get over yourself!

Yeah I am planning on some of their products.

From browsing around the internet I see other people talking about welding up various seams and greatly increasing the rigidity of the chassis.

I just haven't been around an e-body before and have no real idea where I would need to weld.

What US Car Tool offers pretty much sums up what these E bodies need.
Just pick your level of requirement addons.
