Dakota Digital Rallye gauges
« on: April 21, 2016 - 10:58:18 AM »
Just want to let everyone know that Dakota Digital now has VHX series gauges available. No, I'm not a dealer or reseller. I'm only mentioning this as an option for either converting a standard dash to a Rallye dash or upgrading a Rallye dash to modern electronics.

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=1027/category_id=679/mode=prod/prd1027.htm

I've installed the VHX gauges in my Coronet and they look great. Plus I no longer have to worry about the IVR and 40 year old components. I can also recalibrate the speedo without having to mess around with different speedo gears. To me, it's a win-win and I'm glad that these gauges are now available for E-bodies.

So, without spending hours searching, would that be a drop in unit for a non rallye 73 Cuda??? more or less, or would I have to do some serious mods

For 70-71 you would be left with a couple of unused holes where the clock set and odometer trip reset knobs would be.
nice looking set of gauges though

Nice! Thanx for posting that.  I've been thinking about how to get a nice set of back lit gauges without butchering the existing gauge housing.

So it looks like you need the original facia to suite the rallye gauges, is that all? Or do you need the aloy gauge frame as well?
Let's say I start out with a dashboard pad and frame, no gauge, frame, bezel at all etc, I do have the left hand section that has the light switches, wiper switch etc from a non rallye 73 Cuda, if I buy one of the Dakota Dig systems, what else do in need?

Looking at my dash last night - it would appear that the new cluster bolts in as a direct replacement for the original alloy rallye gauge frame. You would need a 72 or newer bezel plate and fascia along with your existing switch block and face plate and fascia.

The wiring / connection / configuration / calibration procedure may make for a few hours of cheek scratching though. The instructiona appeared to be a bit generic.  :pullinghair:

I saw these for chargers last month and was hoping an E-body kit was on the way. Great option to keep a "stock appearance" without hacking the dash up
